H3: Arduino + web

Welcome! Here are some details about H3: Arduino + web, the 19th of a series of hardware hacking workshops in London (check out the others on our blog and pictures here.) , organised by Tinker.it.

What?

Aimed at either advanced programmers or advanced hardware hackers who wants to learn about hooking up their Arduino to the web or making the web affect the physical world. This 2 day workshop will be lead by Dopplr CTO Matt Biddulph and assisted by Nick Weldin.

What do I need to bring?

- Your laptop (please make sure you know the admin password!) is ESSENTIAL
- Your Arduino, USB cable and other bits and pieces you’d like to play with.

IMPORTANT:
You MUST have EITHER familiarity with Arduino programming (eg has attended basic workshop or developed basic applications on their own) OR advanced experience with Web programming and APIs in any language. Teams will be balanced with equal numbers of each skillset..

What we will provide

- You will be provided with the exclusive Ethernet Arduino shield.

DAY 1

AM
Welcome and round-table introductions
Introduction to Arduino Ethernet shield and Arduino Ethernet
Practical: getting connected (plugging into the internet connection and getting the Arduinos talking to laptops)

PM
Introduction to Web APIs such as Twitter and Flickr, and the special considerations of talking to them from hardware
Practical: first Web API client running on Arduino – retrieve data from the internet and send it to a laptop by serial connection
Introduction to web serving
Practical: set up the Arduino as a web server. Read values from basic sensors (potentiometer, etc) and serve web page showing this value

DAY 2

AM
Presentations by guests speakers (TBA)

PM
Participants build projects in teams
Presentation of completed projects
Documentation and feedback

How much?

Tickets are £160 for professionals, £105 for students (“student” is the promo code)
